How did I know this would happen?
This old car has given me nothing but trouble since the day I bought it. And now I’m stuck in Wellsville just miles away from my precious Laura.
Granted, the car only cost me four-hundred dollars, which seemed like such a bargain at the time. But Laura has always said “If the car doesn’t break down before you find a petrol station, it will be your lucky day”. And now here I am, broken down, out of gas and miles from my beloved.
I stand at the side of the road hoping that someone will come by and take pity on me. After all, I’m in my Sunday best. Surely I pose no threat to any motorist.
It starts to rain and I pull my collar up around my ears.
Just when I believe all hope is lost, a kind and gentle soul picks me up and delivers me to my Laura.
When she sees me, soaking wet and without my vehicle, she doubles over with laughter and says: “You should have bought the Ford.”
